Broadcast chiefs vow to clean up airwaves
A day after the nation’s largest radio chain suspended shock jock Howard Stern, broadcasters sought to convince Capitol Hill lawmakers that they were serious about limiting indecency on the airwaves without a congressional crackdown. “We are going in a different direction,” said Clear Channel Radio’s president and chief executive, John Hogan. “That sort of inappropriate material does not have a place on our air.”

Stern blames suspension on boobie backlash
Howard Stern blamed his unceremonious dumping by Clear Channel Communications Tuesday on a conservative backlash prompted by Janet Jackson’s infamous boobie flash at the Superbowl halftime show. “They’ve been after me since 1992, and they’re having their way with me,” he said, referring to repeated troubles he’s had with regulators. “Then Janet Jackson whipped out her boob and it’s all over.”
